Website Redesign Services for Small Businesses
This page is about hiring someone to redesign your site, not about comparing prices across every possible option. For the full cost breakdown, see our pricing guides. Here we cover what the service delivers, how the process works, and which option fits your situation.
What a website redesign service actually delivers
A professional redesign is not just a new coat of paint. When the work is done right, you get a site that looks completely different, performs measurably better, and is handed to you to own outright. Here is what that means in practice.
A visual overhaul, not a template swap
The goal is a design that reflects how your business actually looks and feels, not another generic template with your logo dropped in. That means custom layouts, typography choices, color work, and image treatment that fit your specific category and audience. A restaurant, a law firm, and a dental practice all need their sites to read differently to the people who land on them.
Mobile-first, built to load fast
Most small-business site traffic arrives on phones. A proper rebuild starts with the mobile layout and scales up, rather than shrinking a desktop design down and hoping it works. Speed is a direct input to search rankings: our builds target a 100 Lighthouse score and clean Core Web Vitals, which is the kind of performance agency templates and monthly-bundle sites rarely achieve.
SEO preservation from day one
One of the most common ways a redesign goes wrong is losing search rankings because existing URLs changed without a redirect plan. A careful service audits your current URL structure before touching anything, sets up permanent redirects for any path that moves, and carries over or improves the on-page elements that search engines use to understand your pages.
You own it when we are done
Ownership should not be a question mark. At handoff, the site lives on your hosting, under your domain, in your accounts. There is no monthly license required to keep it live and no agreement that lets the builder reclaim it if you cancel something. Full stop.
Refresh or Rebuild: which service fits your site
The two services differ in scope, not in quality. Choosing the right one is mostly a question of what is already working on your current site.
Choose a Refresh if
- Your existing content is solid and you are happy keeping most of what you already say, just presented better.
- Your main complaint is that the site looks dated, loads slowly, or does not work well on phones.
- Your page structure and navigation make sense and do not need a rethink.
- You want to move quickly and keep costs at the lower end of the range.
Choose a Rebuild if
- You want to rethink the page structure, the messaging, or the audience you are speaking to.
- Your current site was built on a platform or CMS that you want to leave behind entirely.
- The content needs significant rewriting alongside the design work.
- You are opening a new location, changing your service focus, or rebranding, and the existing site no longer reflects the business.
If you are not sure which category you are in, the free intro call is exactly where we figure that out together. And for a deeper look at how to think about this decision, see our guide on redesign versus refresh, which walks through the question with a short self-check framework.
How the process works in about a week
Speed comes from a fixed scope, not from cutting corners. Here is the shape of a typical project.
- Intro call (free). We look at your current site together, talk through your goals, and confirm which service fits. You get the flat price on the call before you decide anything.
- Kickoff and brief. Once you are in, we collect your brand assets, existing content, any must-have pages, and examples of sites you like. This takes you about an hour of back-and-forth, not a weeks-long intake process.
- Design and build (days one through four). We build the site on a staging URL you can see any time. No waiting for a big reveal at the end.
- Revision round. You give feedback, we apply it. The number of revision rounds is agreed up front and baked into the scope, so there is no ambiguity about what is included.
- Launch. We connect your domain, redirect any URLs that moved, verify the site loads correctly across devices, and hand you the keys. The site is yours from this moment forward.
The whole sequence from kickoff to launch typically runs five to seven business days. That is not a sales promise; it is what a fixed-scope project with agreed deliverables and a clear revision round produces consistently. Agencies quote 8 to 16 weeks for the same outcome because they custom-scope every project and route it through layers of account management.
What is included versus what agencies bundle and charge for
When you hire a traditional agency or sign up with a monthly bundle provider, the invoice tends to grow. Understanding what is actually in a flat-rate service, and what is genuinely out of scope, makes the comparison honest.
What is included in a flat-rate redesign
- Custom design and full build of your agreed pages.
- Mobile-first responsive layout on every page.
- Speed optimization targeting clean Core Web Vitals.
- SEO preservation: existing meta titles, descriptions, and redirects for any URL that changes.
- The agreed revision round, scoped and counted before work starts.
- Launch, domain connection, and final QA across devices.
- Full handoff: code, accounts, and assets transfer to you at launch.
What is genuinely out of scope (and honestly priced if you need it)
- Ongoing monthly management. We do not bill you month after month to keep the site live. You own it. If you want future updates, that is a separate conversation, not a hidden recurring fee.
- Custom web applications. Booking systems, e-commerce catalogues, member portals, and similar features go beyond the flat packages. We quote those honestly as Custom rather than padding a package that was not designed to cover them.
- Original photography or video production. If you need new photos shot, that involves a separate photographer. We can advise on brief and usage; we do not produce it ourselves.
- Ongoing paid ad management or SEO campaigns. We set your site up to perform well organically, but running your Google Ads or writing new blog content every month is a different service entirely.
The contrast with agency and monthly-bundle billing is stark. Bundled providers like Hibu report typical real-world costs of around $600 a month, with mandatory 12-month contracts and 114 BBB complaints filed over three years. Townsquare Interactive customers report actual costs of $450 to $900 a month, roughly $27,750 over three years, and many report they do not own the site when they cancel. For a full comparison of billing models, see our guide on flat-rate versus hourly versus monthly web design.
What it costs
The price is a flat $3,000 for a Refresh or a flat $5,000 for a Rebuild, paid once, with no ongoing fee. For detailed number-by-number comparisons of every option on the market, including DIY builders, freelancers, agencies, and monthly bundles, see our guides on how much a website costs and what a redesign specifically costs. Those pages carry the full three-year comparison tables; this page does not repeat them.
Who this service is built for
The flat-rate model works because most small-business sites need the same core things done well, even if the industries look different on the surface. The service is a natural fit for businesses in the following situations.
Local and regional service businesses
Restaurants, dental practices, law firms, contractors, salons, and similar businesses typically have between five and thirty pages, a clear service offering to communicate, and a local audience to convert. That is exactly the scope the flat packages were designed around. For example, a restaurant site needs a mobile menu, a reservations link, and photos that make the food look good, all within a fast load time, and all of that fits neatly inside a one-week fixed-scope project.
Businesses leaving a monthly bundle
Owners coming off a Hibu or Townsquare contract often discover that years of payments have not produced a site they own. The redesign service is a clean reset: one payment, full ownership, no ongoing obligation to us.
DIY sites that have outgrown the template
A Squarespace or Wix site built in an evening when the business launched can serve you fine for year one. By year two or three, most owners who started DIY report spending 60 to 100 hours on it and still ending up with a site that looks like a template. When the business has grown past what a builder can represent, a professional redesign is the cleaner path forward. Our guide on DIY versus hiring a pro walks through the honest time and money math if you are still weighing the options.
The businesses that are not the right fit
If you need a large e-commerce store with hundreds of product pages, a custom membership or booking application, or a web platform rather than a marketing site, that is the complex ten percent we quote separately as Custom. We will tell you that on the intro call rather than fitting your project into a package that was not designed for it.
Website redesign services FAQ
A complete redesign service covers a visual overhaul of every page, a mobile-first rebuild that works on any screen, speed and Core Web Vitals improvements, SEO preservation through proper redirects, and a handoff where you own the finished site outright. What it does not include is an ongoing monthly retainer or a lock-in contract.
